Title: Senior Tissue Culture Technologist
Summary Description: A senior tissue culture technologist has extensive knowledge of blood, amnio and CVS culturing technique and troubleshooting. They are responsible for the day to day operation of the tissue culture facilities. They are responsible for setting up all cultures, post-natal, prenatal, and products of conception (including cleaning gross specimens), maintaining these cultures, harvesting cultures, providing appropriate cell culture preparations to the DNA or FISH sections of the laboratory, and freezing cultures if necessary. They will maintain the equipment and quality assurance procedures for the tissue culture facility. They must keep the reagent and consumable supplies at an appropriate level for daily operation.

Job Description:
1. Be able to alter plans/routines when unexpected, stressful situations and multiple interruptions occur.
2. Coordinate with all technical and administrative laboratory personnel.
3. Become knowledgeable of and comply with all laboratory and company policies and procedures.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of basic laboratory skills, equipment startup, daily maintenance, and shutdown.
5. Organize work and set workload priorities by exercising initiative to discern when to assist coworkers or when to engage in other work-related activities.
6. Establish work priorities for maximum efficiency in response to STAT tests, workload, and multiple test requests on minimal specimen volume.
7. Adhere to Laboratory’s Quality Control policies.
8. Identify problems, and troubleshoot routine problems independently.
9. Recognize non-standard situations and respond according to department policies independently.
10. Monitor inventory requirements and take appropriate action
11. Assist in training new employees in areas of proven competency, as approved and documented by the laboratory.
12. Anticipate and prevent problems by taking corrective actions before crises occur; take appropriate steps to resolve.
13. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
14. Recognize and respond to opportunities to improve the quality of service.
15. Actively participate in department-specific improvement plans.
16. Exhibit ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of patient results.
17. Attend in-service presentations covering a variety of topics.
18. Attend mandatory programs and laboratory staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree required or appropriate experience in medical laboratory science. NCA certification in Cytogenetics (or other accrediting body). Three (3) years experience in tissue culture work (including heavy volumes of Amnicentesis, Chorionic Villus Sampling, and Products of Conception).
Desirable Qualifications: Organized, good communication skills, can take direction from others.

Able to work with others in a positive and productive manner.
Ability to work extended hours as business needs dictate.
